University of Minnesota: Biomedical Discoveries DIstrict
Minneapolis, Minnesota
The University of Minnesota’s Biomedical Discovery District (BDD) sits adjacent to the TCF stadium on its Minneapolis East Bank campus. The landscape for this project included a green roof on the Cancer and Cardiovascular Research and the walking/ bike trail in front of the four buildings that make up the BDD. The second/third story green roof and patio offered sitting areas for those who work in the building and beautiful green space with environmental benefits such as reducing stormwater runoff. The entrances, walkways, and designated bike trails were all updated to create one landscape that matched the entire district. This included 60 trees,
3,000 shrubs/ perennials and stone sculptures accenting the walk. The landscape design ( by Damon Farber) was awarded the Award of Excellence by ASLA MN 2014 and the Award of Excellence by Cast Stone Institute 2013.
